WordPress Website Design for a Humanitarian NGO - Building a Donor-Ready Digital Presence in India

For humanitarian organisations, the website is not just a communication tool – it is the primary mechanism for building trust with donors, demonstrating impact to funders, and mobilising community supporters. A weak digital presence translates directly to fewer donations and reduced credibility with institutional partners. This NGO needed a website that conveyed the gravity of their work, communicated their impact in a way that moved people to act, and met the credibility standards expected by both individual donors and corporate and government funders.

Objective

Help In Suffering (HIS), a Jaipur-based non-profit organization dedicated to animal welfare, aimed to strengthen its digital presence to better communicate its mission, increase engagement, and drive support through donations, adoptions, and community participation.

Challenges

Emotional Impact Not Effectively Translated Digitally

While HIS carried out deeply impactful on-ground work, the existing website did not fully capture or convey the emotional depth and urgency of its mission, limiting its ability to connect with potential supporters.

Unstructured Information Architecture

The website contained diverse information ranging from rescue efforts to adoption and donations, but lacked a clear structure, making it difficult for users to navigate and take meaningful action.

Limited Conversion Pathways for Support

There were insufficient prompts and pathways guiding users toward key actions such as donating, volunteering, or adopting animals, resulting in missed engagement opportunities.

Solution

The site was built on WordPress with a structure specifically designed for NGO fundraising effectiveness – a strong mission statement above the fold, impact metrics presented visually, programme-specific pages explaining how donations are used, and a streamlined donation flow integrated with a reputable payment gateway. Accessibility was built in from the ground up: WCAG-compliant colour contrast, screen reader-friendly markup, and alt text across all images. Non-Profit Organisation schema was implemented to help Google surface the organisation’s content in relevant searches.

Optume approached the project with a focus on storytelling, clarity, and action-driven user experience to align the website with HIS’s mission and impact.

Mission-Led Strategy & Content Structuring

A deep understanding of HIS’s work, audience, and goals was used to restructure the website around its core mission areas.

Content was organized to highlight key initiatives such as rescue, treatment, adoption, and community outreach in a clear and compelling manner.

Emotion-Driven Website Redesign

The website was redesigned to create a stronger emotional connection with visitors through impactful visuals, storytelling elements, and thoughtful layout design.

A clean and intuitive interface ensured that users could easily navigate the website while staying engaged with the organization’s mission.

Action-Oriented User Journey Design

Clear pathways were created to guide users toward key actions such as donations, volunteering, and animal adoption.

Strategic placement of calls-to-action ensured that visitors could quickly and easily contribute to the cause.

Content Optimization for Engagement

Content was refined to balance emotional storytelling with clarity, helping users understand both the impact and the ways they could get involved.

Information was presented in a more accessible and structured format to improve readability and engagement.

Responsive & Performance Optimization

The website was optimized for seamless performance across devices, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of users.

Technical improvements enhanced loading speed and usability, supporting better engagement and retention.
